The Commemorative Year 2018

The year 2018 marks the 80th anniversary of Austria’s Anschluss to Nazi Germany. To mark this occasion, WU is organizing a number of activities intended to critically examine the role of its predecessor institution, the University of World Trade, in the years from 1938 to 1945.

The expulsion of faculty and administrative staff members from the university by the Nazi Regime has been addressed in a few Festschriften published by the University of World Trade and in several academic publications. Research on Nazi-Confiscated Works

In May 2010, the WU University Library launched an investigation intended to identify Nazi-confiscated items in its collection. The project was started on the initiative of the library management and approved by the Rector's Council.

On these pages, you can find a timeline (in German) of the most important historical developments that marked the period from 1938 to 1945 and a schedule of the events WU has planned, where we will be taking a close look at the years between the Anschluss and Austria’s eventual liberation from Nazi rule.
