Anna Theurl is a pre-doctoral researcher at the WU Research Institute for Cooperation and Cooperatives. With an interdisciplinary background in cultural and social anthropology, psychology, international development and social management, she combines perspectives from the humanities, social sciences and economics.

In her dissertation, Anna is examining the motivations and actions of volunteer board members in regional cooperative banks. She is placing a particular focus on gender issues and the interplay between individual sense-making and institutional conditions.

Before taking up her position at the Institute for Cooperation and Cooperatives, Anna worked in social counselling, refugee work and in various educational projects. In her research, she also brings these practical experiences into the analysis of social dynamics.
