ÖVO Dialogue - Change Management and Organizational Transformation in the United Nations

24/10/2019

On October 14, the Institute of Organization Studies together with the Austrian Association of Organization and Management co-hosted the practitioner’s dialogue with Mag. Peter Erhart. Main topic of the event were transformation processes in a highly diversified organization with 45.000 employees – the United Nations.

Similar to most governmental administrative bodies, the General Secretariat of the UN increasingly builds on management instruments known from the private sector. Doing so, systems of managerial accounting and modern risk management were implemented over the past years.  However, due to the size and political complexity of this global operating organization, profound transformation processes involve several challenges. Within die practitioner’s talk, Peter Erhart shared his experiences of implementing management tools in the United Nations. Besides various members of the Austrian Association of Organization and Management, students of the WU-Bachelor’s specialization course ‘Organisation’ attended the dialogue.

Mag. Peter Erhart has been working for the UN in the field of controlling, change management and organizational transformation in Vienna and New York since 2003. He was primary responsible for the global implementation of various management tools in the United Nations. Furthermore, he undertook a sabbatical as visiting scholar at the WU-Research Institute for Urban Management.
