Civil Society and Collaboration with the State and the Market

18/03/2025

We are pleased to announce the publication of the book "Civil Society and Collaboration with the State and the Market" (edited by Ola Segnestam Larsson and Pelle Åberg). The book highlights the growing importance of collaboration between civil society, the state and the for-profit businesses. It provides an overview of the forms, drivers and challenges of cross-sector cooperation and uses international case studies to show how organisations can work together to overcome societal challenges. The book is aimed at students, researchers and practitioners who are interested in the role of civil society actors in an interconnected world.

We have contributed a chapter to this book: Florentine Maier and Michaela Neumayr shed light on the diverse forms of collaboration between non-profit organisations and fpr-profit businesses. They point out the motives behind such cooperation, the possibilities for shaping it and the challenges that may arise. Using concrete examples – from corporate volunteering to cause-related marketing and social impact bonds – they show how non-profit organisations and companies can pursue common goals and where areas of tension may arise.
