New publication on donation behaviour by income groups

In their study "The relation between income and donations as a proportion of income revisited: literature review and empirical application", published in Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, Astrid Pennerstorfer and Michaela Neumayr examine differences in the donation behaviour of different income groups. They examine the shape of the relationship between donation levels and income in more detail. The predominant literature models this relationship mostly as U-shaped - lower and higher income groups donate the highest proportion of their income in relative terms. In their study, the two authors use Austrian tax data to show that the relationship is more complex, however, and should not be reduced to a U-shape. In der Studie „The relation between income and donations as a proportion of income revisited: literature review and empirical application”, die in der Zeitschrift Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly veröffentlicht wurde, untersuchen Astrid Pennerstorfer und Michaela Neumayr Unterschiede im Spendenverhalten unterschiedlicher Einkommensschichten. Dabei wird auf die Form der Beziehung zwischen relativer Spendenhöhe und Einkommen genauer eingegangen. Die vorherrschende Literatur modelliert den Zusammenhang meist als U-förmig – niedrigere und höhere Einkommensschichten spenden der These zufolge - relativ gesehen - den höchsten Anteil ihres Einkommens. Die beiden Autorinnen zeigen in ihrer Studie mithilfe österreichischer Steuerdaten, dass die Beziehung jedoch komplexer ist und nicht auf eine U-Form reduziert werden sollte. Relativ gesehen spenden höhere Einkommensschichten nicht mehr als mittlere Einkommensschichten.
