Abstract: „Strategic Financial Communication: How to Communicate Sustainable Finance to the Financial Markets“

Sustainable finance (SF) has become a buzz word on the financial markets in the past years. However, the conceptualization, understandings, and measurements of SF vary vastly within the financial industry. More recently, increasing criticism and skepticism regarding the trustworthiness and impact of SF has been raised in both the news media and the financial sector (e.g., Tariq Fancy). In this presentation, I will highlight some of the key findings of my Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship and talk about 1) news construction processes of SF and the role of financial journalists as watchdogs, 2) corporate communication and the framing of SF by financial institutions in the news, 3) effective strategic communication of SF by financial advisors, and 4) future research projects dealing with greenwashing, impact measurement, and sustainable financial decision-making.
