EBRD Transition Report 2018-19 “Work in Transition”

19/11/2018

EBRD has just released their newest Transition Report 2018-2019, which analyses the social impact across the EBRD regions of new trends in work patterns, one of the most important challenges facing the world today.

The report highlights the impact on work of changes in demographics and skills and also of migration, both across national borders and within countries. It concludes that this revolution in work can be successfully harnessed as long as authorities respond with effective policies. The publication makes concrete proposals on how to deal with rapidly ageing workforces in some societies and the fast-growing numbers of young people looking for work in others.
It reviews the implications of these changes for healthcare and education policies in emerging economies. And it seeks ways to promote investments that will help contain the emigration of workers from poorer countries and deal more effectively with the integration of migrants in richer ones. Another key section looks at how governments can best respond to the growing trend towards urbanisation as workers in search of employment move away from rural areas.
