Prof. Ewald Nowotny Mobility Grants
Prof. Ewald Nowotny Mobility Grants are designed for WU students participating in international scientific events to enhance their academic development. The grant supports the presentation of research projects or theses at international conferences and scientific events. It also covers participation in moot courts or case competitions.
Event requirements
You need to actively participate in an international academic event or conference, such as:

International short programs
Your contribution and the event should align with one of these topics:
All areas of economics (especially macroeconomics)
The regulatory framework of Austrian and European political economies (business law)
Finance and financial management
Financial markets and stability
Economic growth, competitiveness, price stability, monetary policy, currency, and monetary transactions
Financial and business education
Socioeconomics
Scientific communication (with a focus on business and economics)
The European Economic Area
Equal opportunities and diversity
Statistics (with a focus on business and finance)
The level of participation expected depends on your academic progress: PhD students are expected to be more involved than bachelor’s students.
Formal prerequisites
To apply, you must meet the following requirements:
Admission: You need to be admitted to a WU bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program.
Duration of studies: You must comply with the minimum duration of studies, including two semesters of tolerance.
Event confirmation: Provide confirmation from the event organizers, such as acceptance of your contribution, an invitation to the event, or confirmation of participation for moot courts and case competitions.
Scientific contribution: If you are presenting a scientific paper (e.g., bachelor’s or master’s thesis, dissertation), you need confirmation of supervision from your respective supervisor (see template confirmation).
Available funding
Financial support is foreseen for:
Travel costs between Vienna and the event location (second-class rail travel, economy class air travel)
Participation fees: fees for participation in the event incl. additional costs
Accommodation costs: max. €150 per night, incl. all taxes, expenses, and fees
Mobility at the event location: day tickets for local public transport for the duration of the stay
Note: Up to €2500 can be refunded, but only a maximum of 80% of all costs. Multiple funding is not permitted.

CV (including a list of publications, of applicable)
Information about the event
Information about your contribution (if applicable: confirmation of event organizers)
Estimated costs (including receipts where applicable; see example cost breakdown)
Enrollment cofirmation (german: Studienbestätigung)
WU transcript (german: WU Sammelzeugnis)
Confirmation of supervision (for presenting a scientific paper, such as a bachelor's or master's thesis, or dissertation; see template confirmation)
Letter of recommendation (from the supervisor or a PhD-level or habilitated faculty member, specifically for bachelor’s students)
Information about additional financial sources (if applicable)
Confirmation of receipt of any other grants (if applicable)

Selection
The selection committee, comprising the Vice-Rector for Academic Programs and Student Affairs, the Vice-Rector for Financial Affairs, and the Dean of International Affairs, will assess applications based on the following criteria:
Quality of the application
Innovation and potential of the student’s planned project or contribution
Anticipated positive impact on the student’s future research activities
Expected improvement in the student’s academic performance
If applications are of similar quality, additional consideration will be given to the applicant’s scientific contributions, academic achievements, and financial needs.
Post-event formalities
Within two weeks after the event, the following documents must be submitted via email to the International Office:
Please submit receipts and invoices for the costs listed in your application (refer to the example cost breakdown). Note: If the amount initially transferred to you exceeds 80% of the actual expenses, the difference will be reclaimed.
Provide a 1-2 page report (download template) detailing the results and your experiences during the stay. Include information such as the event recap and how the experience benefited your future academic career.
